As a service to the literary community, James River Writers provides listings of organizations that offer writing classes and host writing groups. These listings are for informational purposes only. JRW strongly suggests checking with the sponsoring organization before enrolling in the class or workshop. Listings are updated on a quarterly basis. Please send listings to info@jamesriverwriters.org. Classes/workshops submitted for inclusion on this list must be open to the public.

A number of small writing groups (4-6 members each) operate in the Richmond area. Members exchange writing and encourage one another in making revisions. James River Writers keeps a list of groups that have openings for new participants. You can pick up a copy of the list whenever you attend JRW's Writing Show program or "Writers Wednesday" event.
In addition to the small groups of which JRW is aware, there are a number of larger writing groups operating in central Virginia. These include:
Agile Writers (http://AgileWriters.com) is a not-for-profit writer’s club dedicated to helping the beginning writer create a first-draft novel in 6 months. The process of getting from a blank page to a full manuscript is based on the writings of experts in the field and years of interaction with writers of all skill levels. We can help you get started, get finished, and get published. We have meetings both in South Side and the West End. See our calendar for an upcoming meeting or seminar: http://writersclub.us or email agilewriters@thinkable.us.
The Hanover Writers Club meets on the third Saturday of each month at 10 am at the Liberty Christian School Activity Center (8094 Liberty Circle) on Mechanicsville Pike across from the Kroger & American Family Fitness. Meetings are geared to support members, encourage them to write, and help them improve their craft. For more information, visit the website at www.hanoverwriters.org.
Richmond Christians Who Write meets on the third Sunday of every month EXCEPT Oct., Nov. and Dec., 2 - 5 pm, at Grove Avenue Baptist Church, 8701 Ridge Road. For more information, contact Tom Lacy, 749-4050, revtcl@aol.com or Rebekah Robb, 527-0913, info@rebekahrobb.com.
The Richmond Playwright's Forum meets on the second Monday of every month, 7:00-9:00 pm at the Barksdale Theatre Willow Lawn conference room. Members will share works in progress and discuss the play writing process. RPF is open to all interested persons, and welcomes your participation as voice actors or active listeners. For more information, contact Margie Langston at margie.langston@yahoo.com or go to www.richmondplaywrightsforum.org.
The Virginia Screenwriters' Forum meets monthly (except July, August and December) at Art Works in downtown Richmond. VSF brings screenwriters together and offers support and constructive feedback to member's scripts in progress. Throughout the years, member scripts have been made into movies and a PBS documentary and have been optioned by major production companies. Aspiring screenwriters are welcome.
