As a service to the literary community, James River Writers provides listings of organizations that offer writing classes and host writing groups. These listings are for informational purposes only. JRW strongly suggests checking with the sponsoring organization before enrolling in the class or workshop. Listings are updated on a quarterly basis. Sign-up sheets for independent writing groups are available during James River Writers' events. By adding your name to the Writing Group Sign-Up Sheet, JRW will put you in contact with other writers seeking same. The Chesterfield Writer's Club meets first and third Saturdays (at Noon) at the Chester Library in Chester, VA off Iron Bridge Road (Rt. 10). The CWC is dedicated to helping writers create a publishable work. We welcome writers of all genres and focus on the needs of the novelist. Beginning writers and experienced writers benefit from our workshops and discussion groups. Our Saturday workshops cover the "Craft of Writing" (Plot, Character, Setting, etc.) as well as Structure (the Hero's Journey) and occasional guest speakers. We also have a critique group that meets on alternate Sundays. The CWC counts among its members several published and soon-to-be-published authors ready to give their advice. The Hanover Writers Club meets on the third Saturday of each month at 10 am at the Liberty Christian School Activity Center (8094 Liberty Circle) on Mechanicsville Pike across from the Kroger & American Family Fitness. The Richmond Playwright's Forum meets on the second Monday of every month, 7:00-9:00 pm at the Barksdale Theatre Willow Lawn conference room. Members will share works in progress and discuss the play writing process. RPF is open to all interested persons, and welcomes your participation as voice actors or active listeners. The Virginia Screenwriters' Forum meets monthly (except July, August and December) at Art Works in downtown Richmond. VSF brings screenwriters together and offers support and constructive feedback to member's scripts in progress. Throughout the years, member scripts have been made into movies and a PBS documentary and have been optioned by major production companies. Aspiring screenwriters are welcome.
